Hare Cabinet

The vast spectrum of blue, grey and green iridescent brushstrokes lends the hares an immediate corporeal presence. As if assembled in an ancestral gallery, their bust portraits hover on a white gesso background. The clinically vacant room radiates the coldness and abstract neutrality of a laboratory, whereas the virtuosity of the artist's execution in oil appears in the style of the old masters - which is further underscored by the term 'cabinet'.
